Side Effects of Pigmented Lesion Removal

Side Effects of Pigmented Lesion Removal Photo

Pigmented lesions are discolorations in the skin as a result of excessive melanin production. Most of the time you can’t control whether you get a pigmented lesion or not, but you can control whether you get pigmented lesion removal. Unless your pigmented lesion is raised, enlarged or is irritating you, it’s not necessary to remove it. Although, many people choose to get pigmented lesion treatment for cosmetic purposes. If you’re considering undergoing treatment as well, here are some of the side effects you should be aware of.

Temporary Change in Skin Color

With pigmented lesion laser treatment, you may experience temporary decreased or increased pigmentation in your skin. This side effect is most common in people with darker skin and will subside in a few weeks or as long as a few months. To expedite the process of restoring the skin back to its normal color, a bleaching cream can be used.

Slight Redness or Irritation

Some clients experience slight irritation immediately following the pigmented laser revision procedure. Patients may also have some redness or a pink skin color a few weeks or a couple months following the treatment. This is normal and shouldn’t be worried about unless the redness becomes very dark or the irritation gets worse.

Scarring and Swelling in Rare Cases

Clients will most likely experience swelling immediately following a pigmented lesion laser treatment. This is due to the fact that the lasers put the skin under more stress than it’s used to. However, in most cases the symptom will subside within a week. In order to prevent scarring, it’s very important to leave the treated area alone as much as possible. Picking at the area and not following the directions of your medical professional could lead to scarring in the future.

Side Effects Vary Depending on Various Factors

Although most clients experience very minimal side effects following pigmented lesion revision, it’s possible for these to occur. Your skin type, skin color, skin tone and other factors all contribute to what side effects you may or may not experience. Just know minor side effects are common, but if any of them worsen, you should contact a medical professional immediately.
